Airport Authority says flight AI315 landed safely in Hong Kong at around 1.15pm.

An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner headed to New Delhi had to turn back to Hong Kong on Monday after the pilot suspected a technical issue during the flight.

The Hong Kong Airport Authority reported that flight AI315 returned to the city's airport and requested a 'local standby' around 1pm, landing safely at approximately 1.15pm.

'Local standby' is a term used when an aircraft approaching an airport is suspected of having a defect that does not pose a significant risk during landing.

Air India confirmed that the pilot decided to return to Hong Kong as a safety precaution due to the suspected technical issue. A spokesperson mentioned, 'The flight landed safely in Hong Kong and is currently undergoing checks as a precautionary measure.'

Last week, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad, India, resulting in the world's deadliest aviation accident in the past ten years, claiming over 200 lives.
