Coleraine Magistrates’ Court heard that the teenagers had denied the alleged offence during interviews with police.

Two 14-year-old boys recently appeared in Coleraine Magistrates' Court, where they faced charges of attempting to rape a girl in Co Antrim. The court was informed that the teenagers denied the allegations during police interviews.

Appearing via videolink from a juvenile justice center on Monday, the boys were charged by detectives investigating a serious sexual assault on a teenage girl in Ballymena. The alleged incident occurred in the Clonavon Terrace area on a Saturday evening.

A PSNI detective constable informed the court that she could link the two boys to the offenses. The charges were read to the teenagers with the help of an interpreter, and both confirmed their understanding.

According to solicitor Niall O'Neill, there was no bail application made at that time. He mentioned that both clients, aged 14, have no previous records in the jurisdiction and had denied the accusations during police interviews.

Currently, there is no suitable bail address available for the boys. The detective constable also mentioned the existence of a potential outstanding suspect in the case, believed to be around the same age as the defendants.

District Judge Peter King decided to remand the teenagers in custody until a further hearing scheduled before a youth court in Ballymena on July 2nd.
