Directional combat requires exploiting weaknesses in defenses and utilising Hexes. He also gains different traversal abilities at night.

Rebel Wolves’ The Blood of Dawnwalker recently showcased its detailed gameplay, shedding light on its combat mechanics. Fans of Kingdom Come: Deliverance will find the directional combat system familiar, where players choose from four attack directions to exploit their opponent's weaknesses and avoid parries.

During the day, players can wield a sword for combat. However, protagonist Coen switches to claws when facing enemies. Interestingly, players can combine claw attacks with sword skills for a more versatile combat style. As players deal damage, they earn activation charges that can be utilized for Hexes like Burning Blood for dealing physical damage over time or the Artery Attack for decapitating enemies.

The game features three skill trees - Human, Vampire, and Shared - with Active Abilities determining the unlockable skills for battle. Apart from combat, Coen can perform various vampire-like abilities such as using Shadowstep to teleport, activating Focus Mode to highlight objects of interest, and employing Planeshift to traverse walls and ceilings.

While exploring the cathedral at night, Coen encounters Xanthe, the oldest vampire and an ally to the main antagonist. Players will face challenges from Blood Guards who enhance their strength using vampire blood, and ultimately, Xanthe herself who possesses blood control abilities. Players must also be cautious of Boiling Blood, a deadly ability that can instantly kill Coen.

Xanthe proves to be a formidable opponent with a questline that delves into her motivations and past, offering players the opportunity to reason with her. The Blood of Dawnwalker presents players with multiple quest paths and decisions to make, some of which are time-sensitive. The game is set to release in 2026 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, promising more updates in the future.
