After shooting two local politicians, Vance Boelter texted his wife "prepare for war", say investigators.

The FBI has revealed that the suspect behind the Minnesota shootings, Vance Boelter, was a doomsday 'prepper' who warned his wife to 'prepare for war' before the incident. Boelter, charged with killing Democratic House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, also injured Democratic State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Investigators found evidence suggesting he planned to target others.

Boelter was apprehended in the woods after a two-day manhunt, while his wife was stopped in a traffic check as she was taking their children to safety. According to court documents, Jenny Boelter received a message from her husband urging her to flee and prepare for potential armed individuals showing up at their home. Investigators discovered $10,000 in cash, passports, and firearms in her possession. She mentioned a 'bailout plan' provided by her husband in case she needed to leave, as well as their involvement in a security company and fishing outfit in Congo, Africa.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the incident as an 'act of targeted political violence'. Reports indicate that Boelter wrote a letter to the FBI alleging that the governor ordered him to kill Senator Amy Klobuchar, a claim with no supporting evidence. Klobuchar, along with Senator Tina Smith and Governor Walz, were among the Democratic politicians listed as potential targets by Boelter. The suspect disguised himself as a police officer to gain entry into the homes of the lawmakers he attacked, wearing a vest with a Taser and badge. Yvette Hoffman, who shielded her daughter during the attack, has been discharged from the hospital, while her husband remains under care.
