An iconic pub in south Tipperary that first opened its doors in 1890 is preparing to reopen after being closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Located on the main square in Cahir, Irwin's pub is owned by Kieran Tuohy, and there has been noticeable activity around the historic establishment.

Independent Cllr Máirín McGrath recently shared that she had spoken with Mr. Tuohy, who confirmed that the pub is scheduled to reopen in the coming weeks.

According to Cllr McGrath, there has been a buzz of activity behind the scenes, and Irwin's will soon be ready to welcome back patrons, both locals and visitors. She extended her best wishes to Kieran and his team for this new chapter.

Kieran and his team have received overwhelming support and well-wishes following the announcement. While the exact reopening date has not been set yet due to ongoing works and repairs, they are aiming to open by the end of the month.

The pub had closed a few years ago, around the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Last year, Rosie Roberts operated a business at the location called Irwin's Cafe and Townhouse for several months before closing on Christmas Eve.

Rosie expressed her gratitude to the community for their support and explained the challenges faced by small businesses in the hospitality industry. Despite the closure, she remains thankful for the memories created and the relationships formed.

With the upcoming reopening, Irwin's is poised to once again become a hub for locals and visitors, breathing new life into this historic establishment.
