A high-level Pakistani delegation visited Brussels to seek European Union support for the continuation of Pakistan's preferential trade access under the GSP+ scheme. Led by former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the delegation met with EU officials to discuss regional tensions following a recent military escalation with India.

The delegation emphasized the need for engagement over confrontation with India, highlighting terrorism, the Kashmir dispute, and water issues as areas requiring dialogue. They raised concerns over India's alleged violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, warning of potential destabilization of water access for millions in the region.

Pakistan's federal minister for water resources, Musadiq Malik, cautioned EU officials about the wider implications of undermining water treaties, stressing the importance of preserving a rules-based global order. Former ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani requested continued EU support for Pakistan under the GSP+ scheme, which has significantly boosted Pakistan's textile exports to the EU.

The delegation's diplomatic efforts aim to secure international backing after recent conflicts with India, with a focus on maintaining trade preferences and addressing key regional issues through dialogue and cooperation.
