Organisers said the rallies would be the largest since Trump returned to office in January.

US Marines have been deployed in Los Angeles as part of a large troop movement ordered by Donald Trump in preparation for widespread protests coinciding with a military parade in Washington.

On his 79th birthday, Trump will oversee the parade marking the 250th anniversary of the US army, featuring tanks and heavy weaponry not seen in the capital for three decades. The event is estimated to cost up to $45 million.

At the same time, the 'No Kings' movement is planning protests across the US against what they view as a Trump personality cult. Organizers anticipate these rallies to be the largest since Trump's return to office in January, denouncing authoritarianism, billionaire-centric politics, and the militarization of democracy.

They expect millions of participants in over 1,500 cities, describing the protests as a direct response to Trump's self-serving parade funded by taxpayers amidst financial struggles for many.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell described the potential crowds as 'unprecedented,' while Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna urged peaceful demonstrations, emphasizing the importance of proper behavior.

Mayor Karen Bass encouraged peaceful protests, warning against violent actions that could lead to troop deployment in the city.

Marines in LA

Thousands are expected to protest in Los Angeles against Trump's troop deployment following immigration raid clashes. US Marines have been stationed around a federal building, detaining one individual briefly before handing him over to law enforcement.

The military presence is part of a larger effort to protect federal buildings, with legal battles ongoing over Trump's authority to deploy troops within the country.

Despite a ruling against Trump's actions by District Judge Charles Breyer, a higher court has paused the order pending an appeal hearing next week. The Department of Justice criticized the ruling as an intrusion on the President's constitutional authority.

Protests in Los Angeles and other cities have erupted over immigration raids and the use of armed immigration agents, with tensions escalating further when Senator Alex Padilla was forcibly removed from a news conference by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
