Vietnam is the tenth nation to receive this status as a "partner country" of the BRICS group of major emerging economies.

Vietnam has officially been accepted as a 'partner country' of the BRICS group of major emerging economies, according to Brazil's government. This move comes as the bloc continues to push for expansion.

Being the tenth nation to receive this status, Vietnam will now have the opportunity to participate in BRICS summits and other important discussions.

Earlier this year, Vietnam had expressed its interest in forming a partnership with BRICS, which originally consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, and China.

Brazil, currently holding the bloc's presidency until 2025, expressed its approval of Vietnam's decision. The South American country praised Vietnam as a significant player in Asia, highlighting its efforts towards South-South cooperation and sustainable development that align with the group's interests.

Established in 2009 and later expanded to include South Africa, the BRICS group has recently welcomed Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, solidifying its position as a diplomatic force against traditional Western powers.

Other partner countries of BRICS include Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.
