The couple paid $2,025,000 at auction on Saturday for the penthouse they were drawn to for its solid 1980s construction.

A pair consisting of an architect and a builder recently acquired a 1980s penthouse in Darlinghurst for $2,025,000 at an auction held on Saturday. The couple, who already owned a two-bedroom unit just 400 meters away, were attracted to the property due to its sturdy 1980s construction.

The split-level penthouse located at 17/1-5 Rosebank Street boasts four bedrooms and several standout features, including a terrace offering breathtaking views of the Harbour Bridge, a vintage timber kitchen, and beautiful stained-glass windows.

During the auction, there were two registered bidders who actively participated. Bidding started at the guide price and steadily increased in different increments until it reached $2 million. At that point, the auction was briefly halted for negotiations with the seller.

Walter Burfitt-Williams from Ray White Touma Group mentioned that they made a slight adjustment to the reserve price during the auction to align with the current market conditions. The highest bidder offered an additional $25,000, ultimately leading to the sale of the penthouse under the hammer.
