The Gerard Pique-founded Kings League said on Saturday that it aims to launch its seven-a-side soccer format in the United States by 2026.

The Kings League, founded by Gerard Pique, announced its intention to introduce its seven-a-side soccer format in the United States by 2026. The online-focused competition is already established in several countries and is now eyeing the U.S. market.

During a briefing in Paris, Kings League CEO Djamel Agaoua revealed that a U.S. branch of the league could be operational by the end of this year or early next year. The expansion will begin on the East Coast for logistical reasons.

Several new soccer formats with smaller teams and shorter games have emerged across Europe and other regions in recent years. These formats, designed for entertainment, have attracted investment and a large online audience, despite criticism from traditional fans.

Established by former Spanish international Gerard Pique in 2022, the Kings League has quickly expanded to Italy, Germany, France, and Brazil. The league also has plans to launch a Middle East and Africa league in partnership with the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.

Each new market requires an investment of €5-7 million, with the U.S. expansion expected to cost more. The Kings League secured €60 million from investors in its latest funding round. However, the league has decided against entering the Chinese market due to regulatory issues and the UK market due to less developed streaming platforms.

Another league, the Baller League, is set to introduce its six-a-side format in the U.S. later this year. Barcelona legend Pique remains undeterred by competition, citing previous successful expansions despite the presence of rival leagues in other countries.

The Kings League incorporates unique rules such as 'President Penalties,' allowing club executives to participate in scoring goals alongside players, adding an exciting twist to the traditional format.
