The number of ICU cases remained consistently low throughout this wave, said the Health Minister.

Singapore's Health Minister Ong Ye Kung announced on Saturday that the recent COVID-19 wave, which began in late April, is now subsiding. He highlighted the decrease in infections and hospitalizations as positive signs.

According to Mr. Ong, the latest data indicates promising trends, with an estimated weekly infection rate of 15,300 cases. This is a significant drop from the 26,400 estimated weekly infections at the start of the wave. Hospitalizations have also decreased to around 118 daily, down from approximately 174.

Wastewater surveillance readings have also shown a decline, further supporting the downward trend. Singapore implemented wastewater testing during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to track the spread of the virus.

Mr. Ong emphasized that ICU cases have remained consistently low throughout this wave, with only about two to three cases reported daily. This demonstrates the strengthened resilience of Singapore's healthcare system in managing COVID-19.

While acknowledging the progress made in handling surges, Mr. Ong urged continued vigilance and preparedness for future waves or potential new pandemics. The Ministry of Health will continue to closely monitor the situation, especially regarding the emergence of new variants, and provide updates to the public accordingly.
