The City Health Office (CHO) in Bacolod City has officially reported the first case of monkeypox on June 15. Mayor Albee Benitez stated that the patient is currently stable, isolated, and receiving proper medical care.

Contact tracing has been initiated to prevent further spread of the disease. The CHO is working closely with the Department of Health (DOH), Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH), and other relevant agencies to implement rapid response measures.

Mayor Benitez reassured the public that the city government is well-prepared to handle such situations. Monkeypox is a manageable illness, and by following health protocols, the spread can be contained. He emphasized the importance of relying on accurate information rather than succumbing to fear.

The city government emphasized the need to avoid stigmatizing or discriminating against patients and their families. Instead, the community is encouraged to show compassion and support. Residents are advised to stay calm, maintain good hygiene practices, adhere to health guidelines, and seek medical help if they experience symptoms.

Special attention should be given to certain vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children, the elderly, individuals with weakened immune systems, and those with chronic conditions. Mayor Benitez urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.

Stricter border controls are being implemented at entry points in Bacolod City, including the installation of scanners at Bredco Port and Bacolod-Silay Airport. These measures are in response to the increasing cases in nearby Iloilo City.
