Houthi security forces quickly cordoned off the house

An airstrike conducted by Israel early Sunday targeted a residence in southern Sanaa, Yemen, where senior Houthi leaders were reportedly holding a secret meeting.

Houthi security forces swiftly surrounded the house, and ambulances were observed transporting individuals who were injured, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

Reports from anti-Houthi media suggested that the meeting was attended by Mahdi al-Mashat, the head of the Supreme Political Council, and Military Chief of Staff Abdulkarim al-Ghamari.

Unverified sources indicated that prominent figures like Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, Revolutionary Committee Head Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, and Military Intelligence chief Abu Ali al-Hakim might have been present at the location.

Eyewitnesses mentioned by Xinhua reported seeing around 10 charred bodies near the site of the explosion. The Houthi group has not released an official statement regarding the incident.

The Houthis, who hold significant control over northern Yemen, have been firing missiles towards Israel since November 2023 to show support for Palestinians amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Following Israel's attacks on Iran starting from June 13, the group vowed to intensify their long-range assaults.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) reportedly targeted Muhammad Abd al-Karim al-Ghamari in the operation on Sunday morning, according to the Jerusalem Post. However, the IDF has not provided an official statement yet.

Over the weekend, Iran activated its air defenses in various regions, and Israel advised its citizens to seek shelter in anticipation of a new wave of missile attacks, as the two adversaries engaged in their most intense confrontation to date.

As international pressure mounted for de-escalation, the scheduled nuclear talks between the United States and Iran on Sunday were called off, with Iran citing the ongoing Israeli attacks as a hindrance to negotiations.

Israel's recent military operation, which commenced on Friday, has targeted Iran's air defense systems and key nuclear and military installations, resulting in numerous casualties, including senior military officials and nuclear scientists, according to Tehran.

On Saturday night, Israel reported intercepting a fresh round of missiles launched from Iran while simultaneously conducting strikes on military objectives in Tehran.

The Israeli military instructed civilians to follow air raid alerts and seek shelter in secure locations until further instructions were provided.

Iran, on the other hand, announced a new series of attacks aimed at Israel, with Tehran's UN ambassador reporting casualties and injuries resulting from the previous exchange of strikes.

While Iran claimed 78 fatalities and 320 wounded individuals from Israel's initial strikes on Friday, Israel reported three deaths and 76 injuries from Iran's subsequent drone and missile attacks that illuminated the skies over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
