BLACKPINK Ticket Scam Leads to Police Investigation in Hong Kong

A young man in his twenties fell victim to a ticket scam while trying to buy BLACKPINK concert tickets, causing the police to launch an investigation.

A man in his twenties from Hong Kong became a victim of a ticket scam while attempting to purchase tickets for a BLACKPINK concert, prompting the police to initiate an investigation.

The individual lost HK$4,900 (approximately $624.23 USD) in an attempt to secure two tickets for the upcoming BLACKPINK concert in Hong Kong next year.

Reports from the Hong Kong media outlet SCMP indicated that the Hong Kong police received 200 complaints of online shopping fraud just last week.

According to the National Police Agency's anti-fraud Facebook page CyberDefender, victims collectively lost around ₩900 million KRW (roughly $659,000 USD) in this particular incident.

Prior to this, the Hong Kong police had issued a cautionary statement on their Facebook page, advising residents to exercise caution when making online purchases.

Specifically, they highlighted the case of a 25-year-old man who fell prey to a scam while attempting to purchase BLACKPINK tickets.

The victim came across two tickets for the BLACKPINK concert listed on the Threads platform and reached out to the seller via an Instagram account. After transferring HK$4,900 (~$624.23 USD) to acquire the QR code for the concert e-ticket, the victim did not receive any tickets in return. — Hong Kong Police

In light of this incident, the police recommended that consumers thoroughly verify the seller's account details and, whenever possible, conduct transactions in person. They also advised canceling any transactions that appear suspicious.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is scheduled to perform in Hong Kong in January next year.
