Vance Luther Boelter is accused of killing Democrat Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and injuring two others.

Vance Luther Boelter has been apprehended for the alleged murder of Democrat Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, as well as injuring two others. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, alongside local officials, condemned the attack as an 'unspeakable act' that has deeply impacted the state.

'This cannot become the norm. It is not the way to resolve political disagreements,' stated Walz during a press conference. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey commended the law enforcement agencies for their 'skill and bravery' in capturing Boelter.

Boelter is accused of posing as a police officer during the attacks on Saturday, engaging in a shootout with police before fleeing the suburban Minneapolis area. Melissa Hortman, a long-time member of the Minnesota House of Representatives and former speaker of the chamber, was one of the victims.

A former political appointee, Boelter had previously served on the same state workforce development board as Hoffman. His background includes work as a security contractor and religious missionary in Africa and the Middle East, with past experience as a pastor in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Authorities discovered a list of 'targets' in the vehicle believed to have been used in the shootings. Superintendent Drew Evans of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension clarified that the notebook found in the car was not a 'manifesto' but rather a collection of writings without a specific ideology.

While the press did not disclose the names on the list, reports suggest that it included Governor Tim Walz, congresswoman Ilhan Omar, and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. State officials have reached out to authorities in neighboring states to inform individuals who may have been listed.
