In 2015, the 81-year-old, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was jailed for child sex offences and then, in 2023, less than six weeks after he was released halfway through his 16-year sentence, he was recalled to jail for breaching his licence conditions.

Disgraced singer Gary Glitter's bid for parole has been rejected by the Parole Board, meaning he will stay in prison.

Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd and is 81 years old, was recalled to jail less than six weeks after being released halfway through his 16-year sentence in 2023 for breaching his licence conditions by allegedly viewing downloaded images of children.

He was convicted in 2015 and sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980.

The Parole Board, after a closed-door hearing last year, stated that releasing him would not be safe for the public due to the risk he poses.

A spokesperson confirmed that his release was denied following a review of his case.

The Parole Board decisions are based on the risk a prisoner may pose to the public and whether that risk can be managed in the community. They consider evidence of the original crime, any changes in behavior, and the impact on victims. Protecting the public is their top priority.

Glitter will be eligible for another review at a later date set by the Ministry of Justice, with his sentence expiring in February 2031.

Earlier this year, he was declared bankrupt for failing to pay over £500,000 in damages to a woman who sued him for abusing her at the age of 12.

Richard Scorer, representing the woman, supported the Parole Board's decision, stating that victims should not have to fear Glitter being released on parole again.

Glitter's criminal history includes a previous jail term in 1999 for possessing indecent images of children, as well as a conviction in 2006 for sexually abusing two girls in Vietnam.

Despite being released from prison in February 2023, he was sent back after attempting to access illegal content online.
