Nintendo confirms young Pauline will not only appear in Donkey Kong Bananza for Switch 2, but she’s playable in 2-player co-op using mouse controls.

Pauline, a cult character from the Donkey Kong series, will make an appearance in the upcoming game Donkey Kong Bananza for the Nintendo Switch 2. In this game, she will be playable in 2-player co-op mode using mouse controls.

Pauline will take on the role of Odd Rock, a small purple gremlin cursed by enemy apes VoidCo. Despite this, she will also appear in human form, looking much younger than in previous iterations. This younger version of Pauline places the game's timeline before the original 1982 Donkey Kong.

In Donkey Kong Bananza, Pauline will assist Donkey Kong as his charge and sidekick. Using the power of song, she will help DK and players locate hidden treasure with a sonar-like shout. Additionally, Pauline can use her voice in combat. The game will offer a two-player co-op option, allowing one player to control Pauline's voice using the Switch 2's mouse controls. Pauline can shout words like “YEAH!,” “WOW!,” and “BAM!,” turning them into physical projectiles that damage enemies and objects.

This unique gameplay mechanic makes Donkey Kong Bananza a third-person shouter, adding a musical twist to the classic platformer. With Nintendo's new Direct presentation, fans can expect plenty of musical flair from kid Pauline in the game.

While there are still questions about the timeline and history of Pauline and Donkey Kong, the gameplay features of Donkey Kong Bananza on the Switch 2 are something to look forward to.
