Iran’s foreign minister will meet in Geneva on Friday with counterparts from Germany, France and the United Kingdom

Iran's foreign minister is set to meet with counterparts from Germany, France, and the United Kingdom in Geneva on Friday, as Israeli airstrikes target Iran's nuclear and military sites and Iran retaliates.

While Washington contemplates military action, European countries are advocating for diplomacy to de-escalate tensions in the region.

The European countries, known as the E3, played a significant role in the original 2015 nuclear deal negotiations with Iran and are now urging Iran to cooperate with the U.N. nuclear watchdog to avoid reinstating sanctions.

The upcoming meeting in Geneva marks the first face-to-face interaction between Western officials and Tehran since the conflict began.

Germany's foreign minister emphasized the importance of engaging in dialogue with Iran to address the nuclear issue but stressed the need for Tehran to take credible steps towards peace.

French officials have expressed readiness to resume negotiations with Iran, signaling a willingness to find a diplomatic solution to the escalating tensions.

As the situation intensifies, the U.S. has not yet confirmed its involvement in the nuclear talks but may reconsider its stance as hostilities escalate.

Israel's recent airstrikes aimed to prevent Iran from advancing its nuclear capabilities, prompting warnings from Iran's leader against U.S. military intervention.

Iran maintains that its nuclear program is peaceful, despite enriching uranium up to 60%, just below weapons-grade levels.

The International Atomic Energy Agency continues inspections in Iran, while U.S. intelligence agencies do not believe Iran is actively pursuing nuclear weapons.
