Scores of passengers in the UK had to evacuate trains and walk along the tracks on the hottest day of the year due to a fault near Loughborough Junction that brought some services to a halt.

Videos shared on social media showed individuals walking beside Thameslink trains near Loughborough Junction station in south London.

Passengers expressed frustration on social media about being stuck onboard trains without air conditioning for up to two hours.

Angela Lewis posted a video of passengers outside Loughborough Junction, stating they were abandoned after nearly two hours on a stuck train to Gatwick.

Another user complained to Thameslink about being stuck on a hot and humid train for over an hour.

A Thameslink spokesperson mentioned that due to a fault on a train near Loughborough Junction, all services were halted in the area, resulting in passengers being evacuated along the track.

The Met Office recorded a provisional temperature of over 33C in Surrey, making Saturday the hottest day of the year so far.

A yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued for parts of south-east Scotland, Yorkshire, the Midlands, and Wales until Sunday morning.

An amber heat-health alert for all regions in England remains in place over the weekend.
