The Atlanta Braves made the tough decision to move left-handed pitcher Chris Sale to the 15-day injured list after he suffered a fractured left ribcage. This unfortunate event occurred when Sale made a diving play during a game against Juan Soto. In response to this, the team brought up left-hander Austin Cox to fill Sale's spot.

For the Braves, losing Sale is a significant setback, especially after a successful week where they swept the Mets and moved closer to a Wild Card spot. Despite winning seven of their last ten games, Atlanta will now have to adjust to playing without Sale. The reigning NL Cy Young award winner has been exceptional this season, boasting a 2.52 ERA and a 2.65 FIP in 15 starts.

With an impressive strikeout rate of 30.8% and a low walk rate of 7.0%, Sale has been a key player for the Braves. Despite facing some bad luck with a high BABIP allowed, Sale has managed to maintain a strong performance throughout the season. His absence will undoubtedly impact the team's rotation, which is already missing key players like Reynaldo Lopez and AJ Smith-Shawver due to injuries.

While the timeline for Sale's return is uncertain, the Braves will have to rely on other pitchers like Spencer Schwellenbach and Spencer Strider to step up in his absence. Grant Holmes and Bryce Elder will also play crucial roles in filling the gap left by Sale. Rookie Didier Fuentes is currently holding the fifth starter position, but other pitchers like Hurston Waldrep, Davis Daniel, and Ian Anderson could be called upon to provide additional support.
