Passengers were evacuated after being trapped on a train for two hours with no air conditioning. The incident occurred on a Thameslink service from Bedford to Brighton, which broke down between Elephant and Castle and Loughborough. Ticketholders were left waiting in carriages during the sweltering heat with no ventilation.

After several hours, a major evacuation was carried out, and passengers were led onto the tracks with no direction on where to go next. Frustrated passengers expressed their anger on social media, criticizing the lack of air conditioning and ventilation on the train.

Temperatures soared up to 33.2C in Charlwood, Surrey, making it the hottest day of the year so far. The incident caused severe disruption, and passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more are entitled to compensation.

Emergency services, including the London Fire Brigade and British Transport Police, assisted in evacuating around 1,500 passengers stranded on two trains near Loughborough Junction station. The incident occurred amidst an amber heat health alert issued for the whole of England.

The Met Office also warned of thunderstorms across northern parts of England, with a yellow thunderstorm weather warning in place. Despite the extreme weather conditions, people across the UK continued to enjoy the summer solstice and bask in the heat.
