Police are investigating a fatal collision in Mississauga that killed one man and sent seven other people to a hospital on Saturday morning.

Peel Regional Paramedic Services says its crews were called to the area of Burnhamthorpe Road West and Kariya Drive just before 10:30 a.m. for reports that two pedestrians had been struck by two vehicles.

One man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. The other pedestrian – a woman in her 20s – was transported to a hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. Police say they do not know if the two pedestrians were known to each other.

Police say two cars were involved in the collision.

“One of the vehicles slid into the pedestrians that were standing at the southeast corner of this intersection,” Const. Michelle Stafford told reporters on Saturday. “The drivers remained on scene.”

Both cars were occupied by multiple passengers. In total, six people from the two vehicles were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
