CEBU CITY – A three-year-old boy and a septuagenarian died in separate drowning incidents in Cebu province on Saturday, June 7.

One of the incidents happened in Sitio Ilag, Barangay Cambang-ug, Toledo City, where a boy drowned while swimming in a river.

The boy's mother told the Toledo police that she left her son inside their house to do the laundry around 8 a.m.

The mother said her son was no longer inside the house when she returned home. She tried looking for her son but failed to locate him.

She said she later chanced upon a Facebook post about a child who was recovered dead in a river.

The mother was later informed that it was her son who was found lifeless in a river about 500 meters from their house.

The boy was brought to the Toledo City General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The other incident happened in Barangay Alpaco, City of Naga.

The fatality was identified as Deonisio Bonghanoy Lapitan, a 75-year-old farmer from Barangay Patag, Naga.

Police said the farmer was found floating on a river.

The farmer may have drowned after he was swept away by river's strong current, police said.

Police recommended to the victim's family to have his body autopsied to erase doubts of foul play.
