Another road crash involving a van occurred at the arrival area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on Friday night, June 6, but the New NAIA Infra Corp (NNIC) said there were no reported casualties and damaged properties.

In a statement, the NNIC said a Toyota Hi-Ace Super Grandia hit the curb between Bays 13 and 14 while maneuvering and its driver told the investigators that it was because he was trying to avoid another vehicle.

“Airport security and police responded right away, and after a quick assessment, the van was safely backed out and escorted to the Airport Police Division (APD) for routine documentation,” the statement read.

The NNIC said the area where the vehicle struck the curb does not have bollards, pointing out that Bays 13 and 14 are not high-traffic zones and have not been assessed as posing significant safety or security risks.

It said the absence of bollards in that location is consistent with current airport design standards.

“The bollards currently in place across NAIA were installed in 2019, prior to NNIC assuming operations in September 2024,” the statement read.

Following the vehicular incident, the NNIC said the area has since been included in a full audit of bollard placements across all NAIA terminals, which has now been completed.

“The company is now implementing improvements to ensure existing bollards are properly installed and securely anchored, while also adding new ones in key areas. The effort follows a separate incident at Terminal 1 last month where two people were killed by a speeding vehicle,” the NNIC said.
