Twenty-one persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro have asked President Marcos to grant them executive clemency.

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said the 21 PDLs were declared qualified for executive clemency after undergoing investigation and interviews at the SPPF last May 20.

Their names were not disclosed by the BuCor.

Executive clemency refers to reprieve, absolute pardon, conditional pardon with or without parole conditions, and commutation of sentence which can be granted by the President.

“This initiative underscores the Bureau’s ongoing commitment to the rehabilitation and reintegration of qualified PDLs through legal pathways such as parole and executive clemency,” the BuCor said in a statement.

“The collaborative efforts of all involved stakeholders highlight the significance of maintaining justice and procedural integrity,” it also said.

Those found qualified for executive clemency are PDLs at SPPF’s Central Prison Compound, Siburan Sub-Prison Camp, San Isidro Sub-Prison Camp, and Pasugui Sub-Prison Camp, it added.
