Bayer Leverkusen looks to have rejected Liverpool's latest offer for Florian Wirtz, with the Reds looking to make their final bid soon - although a move still looks to be likely.
Liverpool tabled a third offer for Wirtz on Friday, having already seen two bids turned down. The latest offer totaled around $153 million (£113M) — around $135M (£100M) up front and up to around $18M (£13M) in add-ons.
According to the Daily Mail though, that has been turned down, with Leverkusen holding out for around $160M (£118M). The German side is said to be resigned to losing Wirtz, but wants to maximize the fee it receives for him, having originally set an asking price of $171M.
Wirtz's heart is said to be set on a move to Liverpool, having already turned down both Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
It's claimed that discussions between Leverkusen and Liverpool are now centered on bonuses, with Wirtz's current club wanting an increase in add-ons.
As such, a final offer of $160M is expected within the next 24 hours, with Leverkusen seemingly accepting they won't now get their original asking price.
Although the concept of a 'final offer' may leave some supporters worried, it is suggested that all parties are confident a deal can be struck, with Wirtz apparently "desperate" to move to Anfield.
The 22-year-old has dropped a couple of hints recently that he is set to join former teammate Jeremie Frimpong on Merseyside this summer after responding angrily to speculation that he wanted Alexis Mac Allister's No.10 shirt, while also delivering a telling nod after being asked whether he was looking forward to joining Liverpool.
Given his desire to join the Reds, Leverkusen is not planning on standing in his way, as long as they receive what they consider to be a fair price.
Meanwhile, the Mail also claims that Liverpool is looking to step up its pursuit of Milos Kerkez in the coming days, with sporting director Richard Hughes looking to negotiate down Bournemouth's $61M asking price.
Once the Wirtz and Kerkez deals are wrapped up, the Reds will set about balancing the books, with the sales of Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott and Kostas Tsimikas all being touted, while Federico Chiesa is said to be weighing up a return to Italy.
