Zamboanga City has recorded an average of 20 Human Immunodeficiency Virus cases per month for the first quarter of 2025, sparking concerns of an increase in the number of such cases.
City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite said 62 cases of HIV were recorded from January to March this year. Only 11 cases of HIV were monitored for the first quarter of 2015 in Zamboanga City.
Six individuals have so far succumbed to the disease.
Dr. Nazra Jumaani, Zamboanga City Medical Center chief of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, reported 93 cases of HIV from January to May.
There were 23 cases in January, 20 in February, 12 in March, 20 in April, and 17 for the month of May.
Most affected were in the 18 to 27 age bracket.
