Mumbai train accident: Five commuters killed falling off overcrowded train near Mumbra; investigation underway by railway administration and police.

Five commuters were killed after falling off a train heading to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM) near Mumbra on Monday (June 9, 2025).

According to initial information received, due to overcrowding the passengers were hanging into the train gates and a push or jostle caused around 12 passengers to fall onto the tracks resulting in five fatalities.

The railway administration and police have reached the spot and the injured are taken to the nearest hospital. Meanwhile, police are investigating into the accident.

Future Safety Measures

Following the Mumbra train accident in Mumbai, Railway Board has stated that all rakes under manufacturing for Mumbai Suburban will have automatic door closer facilities. All rakes in service will be redesigned and door closure facility will be provided in these rakes of Mumbai Suburban.

Swapnil Nila, chief public relations officer of the Central Railway, told PTI that the guard of a Kasara-bound train reported about the injured passengers along the track side to the control room at around 9.30 am.

It was not yet known from which train the passengers fell, the official said.

It was not immediately known how the accident took place, another official said.
