This new naming system aims to make things clearer and more consistent across all platforms.

During WWDC 2025, Apple made a significant announcement regarding the naming of its operating systems.

Instead of using traditional names like iOS 19 and macOS 19, Apple has decided to incorporate the year into the name. This means that all operating systems will now be known as iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, tvOS 26, watchOS 26, and visionOS 26.

The purpose behind this new naming system is to create a more consistent and clear approach across all platforms. By aligning with what competitors like Samsung and Microsoft already do, Apple aims to simplify the naming process and help users easily identify the latest updates.

These changes in naming were just one part of the numerous announcements made at WWDC. The event also introduced a complete design overhaul known as 'Liquid Glass,' featuring a transparent interface. This redesign is the most significant change since the introduction of iOS 7.
