Sana Mir, a stalwart in both ODI and T20 formats of cricket, has made history by becoming the first Pakistani female cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Taking on the role of captain in 2009 at the age of 23, Mir quickly established herself as one of the top ODI bowlers, reaching the pinnacle of the rankings in 2018.
Her remarkable performance of seven wickets in a series against Australia, the top-ranked team at the time, solidified her position as the highest wicket-taker. Mir's standout moment came when she claimed figures of 5/32 against the Netherlands in the ICC Women’s Cricket Challenge, leading her team to victory. Additionally, her impressive 5/14 against Scotland in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2017 was instrumental in Pakistan advancing to the Super Sixes phase of the tournament.
Not only excelling in ODIs, Mir also shone in T20Is, achieving a career-best of 4/13 against Ireland in the RSA T20 Cup, which Pakistan emerged victorious in under her leadership. As captain, she guided Pakistan to two Asian gold medals and led the team in multiple ICC Women’s T20 World Cups and ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup tournaments.
Under Mir's captaincy, Pakistan experienced significant success, with the team securing their first ODI win against South Africa. Mir's leadership resulted in 26 victories in both ODI and T20I formats, out of 72 ODIs and 65 T20Is played. Even after relinquishing the captaincy, Mir continued to make valuable contributions to the team, notably with a stellar four-wicket haul against South Africa that dismantled their batting lineup.
With 1630 ODI runs to her name, including three half-centuries, Mir showcased her prowess not just as a bowler but also as a proficient batter. Her milestone of reaching 1000 runs and 100 wickets in ODIs further cements her legacy as one of the most accomplished cricketers in the women's game.
