A man is facing charges for fatally stabbing his wife while she was pushing their baby in a pram, after tracking her down to a refuge where she sought safety from him, according to prosecutors presenting the case to a jury.
Habibur Masum, 26, allegedly launched a violent attack on Kulsuma Akter, 27, in Bradford, West Yorkshire, on 6 April last year.
During the trial at Bradford Crown Court, it was revealed that Ms. Akter had relocated to the city to seek refuge from Masum's abusive and controlling behavior.
Prosecutors stated that Masum had previously threatened Ms. Akter's life and was under court bail conditions to stay away from her at the time of the incident.
According to prosecutor Steve Wood KC, Masum tracked down Ms. Akter in Bradford and attempted to manipulate her into leaving the refuge by posing as a GP's surgery staff and offering fake appointments.
On the day of the attack, Ms. Akter was walking with a friend and their seven-month-old son when Masum confronted her on the street, shocking her as she believed he was in Spain.
CCTV footage presented in court showed Masum attacking Ms. Akter, stabbing her multiple times before kicking her and fleeing the scene.
Ms. Akter sustained severe injuries, including stab wounds to her body and face, with one wound partially cutting her windpipe and severing her jugular vein.
Despite Masum denying the murder charges, he has admitted to manslaughter and possession of a knife. He also denies charges of assault, making threats to kill, and stalking.
The trial is ongoing.
