A former physics teacher, Kirsty Buchan, from Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, was dismissed after students discovered her sexually explicit OnlyFans profile. Using the pseudonym Jessica Jackrabbit, she described herself as a 'good teacher gone bad' with a 'sexy tight body'. Ms. Buchan advertised her paid-for page on Instagram, which students could access, despite being previously cautioned by her head teacher for poor judgment on social media use. The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) found that Ms. Buchan failed to conceal her identity and profession, and her behavior lacked integrity.
Solicitor and presenting officer for the GTC, Gary Burton, stated that Ms. Buchan used her profession as a selling point and appeared to justify her actions in newspaper interviews. Bannerman High School became associated with having an OnlyFans teacher due to her actions. Ms. Buchan resigned from her position in December 2022 following complaints and chose not to participate in the hearing.
Head teacher Seonaidh Black described Ms. Buchan as a 'bubbly and enthusiastic' individual who wanted to excel in her role. Ms. Black noted that Ms. Buchan had unclear boundaries with students on social media, leading to informal conversations to address the issue. In November 2022, Ms. Buchan was signed off from work due to personal stresses, and screenshots of her OnlyFans page or social media were shared with senior pupils.
Despite attempts to contact Ms. Buchan, she resigned shortly before her sick leave was due to expire. The revelation of her OnlyFans page coincided with staff strikes over pupil behavior, impacting the school significantly. Ms. Black emphasized the importance of providing a positive environment for students and expressed concern that Ms. Buchan's actions contradicted the school's values. The aftermath of this incident is expected to have a lasting impact on the school community.
