The bus driver claimed that the brakes had failed, though the bus operator has said the vehicle was serviced last month and had no issues.

The police have confirmed that the bus involved in the fatal crash in Perak, which claimed the lives of 15 students, was 'clearly speeding' based on dashcam footage. Survivors and witnesses also reported that the bus was traveling at a high speed before the accident, although the driver claimed that the brakes had failed. Malaysia's Transport Minister Anthony Loke has pledged to take 'stern action' once investigations into the incident are concluded. The crash occurred on the East-West Highway in Perak, involving a bus carrying students from Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) and a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on Monday morning.

Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin stated that the dashcam footage clearly showed the bus speeding and how a road barrier penetrated the front of the bus after it overturned. Passengers seated on the left side of the bus were among the casualties as the barrier reached the passenger seats. A viral 40-second video of the incident circulating on social media captured the bus trying to overtake another vehicle before crashing on the left side of the road.

During a press conference, Noor Hisam mentioned that authorities are seeking a remand order for the bus driver once he is discharged from Taiping Hospital. The police have not yet taken his statement and will wait for his discharge before further action is taken. The bus driver, Mohd Amirul Fadhil Zulkifle, sustained hand injuries in the crash.
