Kabairathan Santhurukanthan brutally attacked a disabled man by smashing a Desperados bottle over his head and jabbing the broken glass into his face and neck. Santhurukanthan, who had just been released from prison, wanted to be returned to jail and carried out the assault after being confronted for racist abuse towards a shopkeeper.
He abandoned his plan to go to the airport and confessed that he would have killed the victim if not stopped by the public. The incident took place in Liverpool city center, where Santhurukanthan attacked Damon Emina, a disabled man, causing permanent scarring.
Santhurukanthan was heavily intoxicated when he attacked Emina, who suffered from learning difficulties and cerebral palsy. After smashing the bottle over Emina's head, he continued to jab the broken glass into his face and neck, making racist remarks.
Witnesses intervened to stop the attack, and Emina was taken to the hospital with severe injuries, including a deep laceration to his cheek. Santhurukanthan, who wanted to go back to prison, admitted to the assault and expressed his desire to commit more crimes.
He has a history of criminal offenses and substance misuse. Despite showing remorse and engaging in religious activities in prison, he was sentenced to six years and nine months in jail, with an additional five years on license.
