The Philippines and the United States once again reaffirmed their strong alliance as the foundation of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, along with a commitment to further expand security and economic cooperation amid China’s increasing assertiveness in the South China Sea.

The Philippines and the United States have once again emphasized their strong alliance as a crucial element for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. They have committed to expanding security and economic cooperation, especially in light of China's growing assertiveness in the South China Sea.

During a meeting in Washington, DC, Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the escalating challenges posed by China's actions in the disputed West Philippine Sea islands. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to upholding international law and ensuring freedom of navigation in the area.

Manalo, currently on a working visit to the US, was joined by Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez for the meeting with Rubio. In addition to security issues, they also focused on enhancing economic ties to benefit the citizens of both nations.

The discussions included exploring new projects for regional cooperation, with a particular emphasis on trilateral initiatives involving Japan. One such project is the Luzon Economic Corridor, which aims to improve economic connectivity in the Philippines and the broader Indo-Pacific region through major infrastructure and trade developments.

This meeting signifies a significant step in the continued growth of US-Philippine relations, highlighting the importance of not only security but also economic resilience and peace in the region. The reaffirmation of the alliance comes at a crucial time, given the heightened tensions in the South China Sea, where Chinese vessels have been obstructing and harassing Philippine maritime vessels in Manila's exclusive economic zone.
