Marcos looking into BI corruption allegations

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. stated on Tuesday that he is currently investigating the corruption allegations within the Bureau of Immigration. He mentioned that it is challenging to thoroughly review a white paper that lacks a signature and specific details. Despite this, Marcos assured reporters that they are looking into the matter and will continue to do so.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado has refuted the corruption accusations in the bureau, particularly regarding the handling of cases related to illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in the country. Viado dismissed the allegations as baseless, which were supposedly outlined in a letter sent by BI employees to the President last week. The employees, who opted to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, highlighted in the letter the alleged corrupt practices under the current BI leadership, including mishandling POGO-related cases and deportations.

Viado labeled the letter as part of a "smear campaign" and accused a senior BI official of promoting the propaganda. This accusation came after the BI chief allegedly turned down the official's request to release a Chinese national associated with a prominent political figure from the previous administration.
