Police in Saanich, B.C., are looking into a violent incident at a Tim Hortons that was recorded in a viral video. The footage shows an older man punching a teenager, with another man breaking up the fight and a third man slapping the youth.

The altercation took place at the Saanich Plaza location of the popular coffee chain and has garnered millions of views online.

Isaac Campbell, the person who filmed the video, explained that the teenager instigated the conflict by throwing an object that hit the older man's wife. According to Campbell, the teen was making a mess by throwing food around.

He recounted, "I get a chocolate bar whipped at my head, it just whizzes by my head … so I turned around, there’s like a 14-year-old kid standing there. He’s 14, I am not going to do anything, so I just gave him the stink eye. And then I heard an old man start yelling, so I just whipped the phone out, I knew something was going to go down."

Campbell further described the sequence of events in the video, stating that the older man immediately started throwing punches at the teenager. The scuffle was quickly broken up by onlookers, but another man approached and slapped the youth in the head.

Saanich police Insp. Damian Kowalewich mentioned that the incident likely occurred at the end of April but was only reported recently. Investigators are in the process of gathering all the necessary information to understand the full context of what happened.

He emphasized that regardless of the circumstances, resorting to violence is never condoned by law enforcement. Taking matters into one's own hands can have serious consequences, and the police are focused on determining the events leading up to the altercation.

Campbell expressed his lack of surprise at the video going viral, attributing its popularity to the unexpected nature of seeing an elderly man involved in such a physical confrontation. He noted that the older man and his wife left the scene promptly after the incident, with the man showing support for his spouse by escorting her out of the restaurant.
