Sindh Minister for Works & Services and Prisons Haji Ali Hassan Zardari stated that negligence on the part of Malir District Prison officials and personnel might have led to the recent significant jailbreak.
During a media interaction in the Ghorabari area, Zardari mentioned that an investigation was ongoing and anyone implicated in the jailbreak would face consequences.
Over 200 inmates escaped during the night of June 2-3 while being relocated to safer barracks after mild earthquakes hit Malir and surrounding areas. The majority of escapees have either returned voluntarily or been recaptured.
The minister highlighted Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah's commitment to taking strict action against those responsible for the incident.
Zardari dismissed rumors of internal conflicts within his departments or disagreements with his son, attributing them to political opponents attempting to damage his reputation through baseless allegations.
He urged journalists to refrain from using unethical language when reporting on personal and family matters.
Zardari outlined development projects for Thatta and emphasized his efforts to reform the prison system, aiming to modernize facilities and ensure inmates receive proper care and amenities.
He announced the completion of the Thatta District Jail project and plans, with the Asian Development Bank's support, to construct a protective bund at Keti Bandar to combat sea erosion. Additionally, he revealed upcoming mega projects for Thatta and the imminent inauguration of the Ghorabari Hospital.
Attendees at the media briefing included PPP youth wing leader Ashiq Hussain Zardari and Thatta District Council Chairman Abdul Hameed Panhwar.
