Shane Lowry sees the opportunity to play alongside Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose in the first two rounds of the US Open as a positive experience as they face the challenging Oakmont course.
Lowry and McIlroy teed off together this morning and plan to do so again tomorrow, spending a lot of time together on the course in the coming days.
Lowry expressed his thoughts on the pairing, saying, 'We’ll be sick of each other by Friday, but hopefully we both perform well and have a chance over the weekend.'
Playing with his Ryder Cup teammates is something Lowry views as beneficial, having previously played with McIlroy at Bay Hill earlier this year with good results. He is looking forward to the challenge alongside McIlroy and Rose.
While the camaraderie is strong, Lowry acknowledged that once they are on the course, there is little time for conversation or enjoyment. Nonetheless, he is looking forward to the experience.
Reflecting on McIlroy's recent success at the Masters, Lowry admitted feeling a mix of jealousy and happiness for his fellow golfer. This has fueled his own desire for Major success, especially after coming close at Oakmont in 2016.
Lowry and McIlroy are scheduled to start their rounds at 7:40 am on Thursday and 1:25 pm on Friday. Meanwhile, top-ranked player Scottie Scheffler will be on the opposite side of the draw, beginning his rounds at different times.
