Detectives investigating the case are reportedly looking closely at 'clothing debris and bones' found near Praia da Luz, Portugal

Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are reportedly examining samples of 'clothing and bones' discovered during last week's search. German and Portuguese investigators concluded a three-day search last Thursday, covering a 120-acre area in Lagos, Portugal, in their latest bid to find fresh evidence against main suspect Christian Brueckner. Initial reports suggested the operation - conducted 30 miles from where the three-year-old went missing in May 2007 - had not yielded any new leads.

However, it is now claimed that fragments of clothing and bones, found at the scene, have been sent for testing this week. The search - the first since 2023 - saw crews spend three days combing through scrubland and abandoned buildings, including a derelict farmhouse, reports the Mirror.

A source informed Berlin Morning Post: 'Several objects have apparently been discovered, which are now being examined in more detail by the police in the laboratory. Portuguese media report that among the items found were fragments of clothing and bones. The investigators have not officially commented on whether the finds could be linked to Madeleine's disappearance but that is clearly their hope.'

This development follows the revelation that Brueckner had sent a letter to the police stating that 'decisive questions can never be answered'. Brueckner, currently imprisoned for raping a 72 year old woman in Praia da Luz in 2005, allegedly sent a note to the authorities suggesting a series of questions that could implicate him in the disappearance of the three year old girl.

According to German media, the note reads: 'It is the important questions, the decisive questions that can never be answered. Was I or my vehicle clearly seen near the crime scene on the night of the crime? Is there DNA evidence of me at the crime scene? Are there DNA traces of the injured party in my vehicle? Are there other traces/DNA carriers of the injured party in my possession? Photos? And, don't forget, is there a body/corpse? All no, no no.'

The exact date of the letter is unknown. A recent documentary has uncovered disturbing circumstantial evidence discovered at an old warehouse formerly owned by Brueckner in Neuwegersleben, Germany. The Sun reports that police found over 70 children's swimsuits, a toddler's bike, inflatable toys, and a collection of images on an 80GB hard drive, allegedly taken in Portugal.

Additionally, a laptop, masks, and guns were discovered, along with a handwritten story detailing the use of drugs to kidnap a woman and child from outside a preschool.
