‘Rewarding guys who got us here’: Marnus call explained as Aussie WTC final XI named

Ahead of the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord’s, Australian captain Pat Cummins has announced the final XI for the crucial match. Marnus Labuschagne will open the innings, Josh Hazlewood replaces Scott Boland, and Cameron Green makes a return after an impressive County cricket stint. Beau Webster will also feature in the lineup.

Cummins explained that Labuschagne's selection was based on rewarding players who have contributed significantly throughout the championship cycle. Despite concerns about his form, Labuschagne's past performances have earned him a spot in the team over young talent like Sam Konstas.

The decision to include Webster provides Australia with a fifth bowling option if needed, given his ability to bowl seam and off-spin. Cummins believes that Webster's all-round skills will be crucial in the final.

South Africa also revealed their playing eleven, with Temba Bavuma opting for four bowlers in the side. Lungi Ngidi returns to the team after a long injury layoff, while Dane Paterson misses out on selection.

As Australia prepares to face South Africa at Lord’s, Cummins acknowledged the challenges of playing with the Duke ball on a neutral ground. Despite uncertainties, Australia's strong record at Lord’s gives them confidence heading into the final.

The World Test Championship final is set to begin at 7:30pm AEST at Lord’s in London, England.
