British Foreign Secretary David Lammy previously indicated that the UK would sanction the two over comments he described as “monstrous.”

Reports indicate that Britain will be joining other countries like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand in imposing sanctions on National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, as stated by The Times.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy had previously mentioned that the UK would be sanctioning the two ministers due to what he described as 'monstrous' comments.

These sanctions will prevent both Smotrich and Ben-Gvir from entering the UK and will also prohibit any UK-based financial institutions from engaging with them.

In response to the report, Ben-Gvir stated, 'We survived Pharaoh, we will also survive Keir Starmer. I will continue to work for the State of Israel and the people of Israel without fear or intimidation!'

Similarly, Smotrich commented on the situation, saying, 'I hear that Britain has decided to impose sanctions on me for obstructing the establishment of a Palestinian state. The timing couldn't be better. Britain has already tried once to prevent us from settling the cradle of our homeland, and we will not allow it to do so again. We are determined to continue building.'

Both politicians recently campaigned against allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza, with Smotrich expressing his refusal to allow 'even a grain of wheat' to enter the Gaza Strip, and Ben-Gvir stating, 'There is no need to bring in aid [to Gaza]. They have enough.'

Ben-Gvir also made controversial remarks about replacing the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem with a synagogue and encouraging the expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza by promoting voluntary emigration.

Furthermore, the UK announced in May that it would pause negotiations on a new free trade agreement with Israel following Prime Minister Keir Starmer's concerns over the military escalation in Gaza.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy highlighted the suspension of trade talks and criticized comments made by Smotrich regarding the relocation of Gazans.
