A paramedic who responded to the scene of a fatal sword attack in north-east London shared her harrowing experience in court as Marcus Monzo allegedly turned on the ambulance. Monzo, 37, is facing charges of murder and attempted murder for a series of attacks in Hainault last year. The paramedic described the terrifying moment when Monzo began attacking the ambulance with a sword.
Stephanie Baisden, the paramedic, recalled the fear she felt when she saw the defendant holding a large sword outside the ambulance. She recounted the stressful situation as they tried to drive away while Monzo attempted to break the window with his weapon. Another colleague, Lachlan Allan, also testified about the incident.
Police body camera footage was shown in court, revealing the confrontation between officers and Monzo on the street. PC Cameron King described his petrifying encounter with Monzo, who was wielding the sword and making alarming statements. The court also heard about the attack on PC Yasmin Mechem-Whitfield, who was slashed multiple times by Monzo.
Witnesses and officers provided chilling details of the incident, with one eyewitness recounting the immediate aftermath of the attack. Monzo faces multiple charges, including wounding with intent, aggravated burglary, and possession of offensive weapons. The trial is ongoing.
