The House of Representatives recently adopted recommendations to file charges of plunder, technical malversation, and bribery against Vice President Sara Duterte and other individuals. This is in connection with the alleged misuse of P612.5 million worth of confidential funds from her office.
The recommendations were part of Committee Report No.1503, submitted by the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability chaired by Manila 3rd district Rep. Joel Chua. The investigation focused on the misuse of confidential funds under the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and Department of Education (DepEd).
During a plenary session, the House adopted the committee report after Chua presented the key points to fellow lawmakers. Deputy Speaker Antipolo 1st district Rep. Roberto Puno declared the report adopted through a voice vote. A 53-page committee report, detailing findings and recommendations, was later obtained by the Manila Bulletin.
One of the key recommendations included the filing of charges for Plunder under Republic Act No. 7080 against Vice President Duterte, DepEd Officials, and OVP Officials. The committee cited the amassing of public funds exceeding Php 50 million, with the misused confidential funds totaling Php 612.5 million. The report also mentioned the establishment of a conspiracy during the Committee's hearings.
