Hundreds of fans, some of whom had travelled from as far away as Mexico, gathered to welcome the band members back to civilian life

K-pop sensations RM and V from the popular group BTS have officially completed their mandatory military service in South Korea.

Upon their discharge in Chuncheon City, around 200 fans, some traveling from as far as Mexico, Turkey, and Brazil, gathered to welcome them back to civilian life.

One fan, Reina Lorena Quintero Sevilla, expressed her excitement after an 18-hour journey from Mexico City, highlighting the anticipation and love for the band members.

RM and V began their service in December 2023, with fellow members Jin, J-Hope, and Suga already in the midst of their conscription.

Jin, the eldest member, completed his service in June 2024, followed by J-Hope in October. Jimin and JungKook are set to be discharged soon, while Suga is serving as a social service agent and will be released later this month.

The group plans to reunite later in 2025, marking their return to the music scene.

In South Korea, military service is mandatory for men aged 18 to 28 as part of a conscription system aimed at national defense against North Korea. While some individuals, such as athletes and musicians, may receive exemptions, K-pop stars do not fall under this category.

The BTS members were able to delay their service due to a revision in the Military Service Act, allowing K-pop idols to postpone enlistment until the age of 30. After much public debate, the group's management confirmed in 2022 that all seven members would fulfill their duties.
