The group got into difficulties during bad weather on Benbulben on Monday afternoon.

Four men found themselves in a challenging situation on the popular Irish mountain, Benbulben, due to bad weather conditions on Monday. The group became disoriented as heavy rain and strong winds hit County Sligo. The local police, Gardaí, were notified about the deteriorating weather, prompting the deployment of the Sligo/Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team (SLMRT) and a coastguard rescue helicopter to the mountainside around 3:00 PM local time.

Despite the challenging conditions, the helicopter initially couldn't reach the group because of low cloud cover and limited visibility. In response to the growing concern for the stranded individuals, the helicopter transported several responders from the roadside to a spot on the mountain near the group. Eventually, the responders managed to reach the men, who were not too far from the mountain's summit, while the helicopter remained close by just below the cloud base.
