BSE Sensex closed lower by 53 points on Tuesday, ending a four-day winning streak as banking and energy shares faced profit-taking in volatile trade. The index settled at 82,391.72, with 14 components closing lower, 15 higher, and one unchanged.
Starting higher at 82,680.79, Sensex climbed 235.58 points in the morning but later dropped by 204.81 points to hit a low of 82,240.40 due to profit-taking in major stocks like Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank.
Meanwhile, NSE Nifty gained 1.05 points to close at 25,104.25, marking the fifth consecutive day of gains. Over the past four days, Nifty surged over 560 points, while Sensex rose by 1,707.7 points.
Asian Paints, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finserv, ICICI Bank, Maruti, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, and Mahindra & Mahindra witnessed declines, while Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors, Infosys, HCL Tech, IndusInd Bank, and UltraTech Cement were among the gainers. ()
