Ryanair Acquires 30 New LEAP-1B Engines Valued at €430m

The fuel-efficient engines, which  will be delivered over the next 2 years, will support Ryanair’s fleet of 210x B737 Gamechanger aircraft and also the B737 MAX-10 aircraft which deliver in 2027.

Ryanair recently announced a deal with CFM to purchase 30 new spare LEAP-1B engines at a list price of $500 million (€437 million). These fuel-efficient engines will be delivered over the next 2 years to support Ryanair's fleet of 210 B737 Gamechanger aircraft and the upcoming B737 MAX-10 aircraft set to arrive in 2027.

The addition of these 30 engines will bring Ryanair's total pool of spare engines to over 120, enhancing the airline's operational resilience. The company plans to expand its fleet to 800 B737s, all powered by CFM engines, with the goal of increasing traffic to 300 million passengers annually by 2034.

Michael O'Leary, CEO of Ryanair, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership with CFM, stating that the purchase of these new engines is a significant investment in improving the operational resilience of the airline group. The advanced technology CFM engines are expected to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per seat by up to 20% when installed on the B737 MAX fleet, further solidifying Ryanair's cost leadership in Europe.

CFM's president and chief executive, Gael Meheust, also commented on the agreement, highlighting the longstanding successful partnership with Ryanair. He emphasized the company's commitment to supporting Ryanair's growth by providing top-notch reliability and utilization standards.
