India's coastguard is currently working to extinguish a severe blaze that has taken over a Singapore-flagged container ship off the southern coast. The 268m-long container vessel MV Wan Hai 503, carrying 22 crew members, caught fire about 78 nautical miles off India's Beypore port on Monday.
The Indian Coast Guard and Navy were able to rescue 18 crew members on Monday, but four individuals remain unaccounted for. Among the missing crew members are two from Taiwan, one from Myanmar, and one from Indonesia.
As of Tuesday, the Indian Coast Guard reported that the ship is still experiencing fires and explosions, with a tilt of approximately 10 to 15 degrees. Images released by the authorities show flames erupting from the containers on board, surrounded by dense clouds of black smoke.
