The highly anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 has proven to be a massive success in France, with the console reportedly breaking sales records in the region. According to new data from Gyo on X, the Switch 2 sold over 200,000 units in its first weekend, nearly doubling the previous record set by the PS5 in 2020.

During its launch weekend, the Switch 2 generated over 100 million euros in revenue from console sales alone, with total revenue reaching over 130 million euros when including games and accessories. Impressively, 70% of the sales were attributed to Mario Kart packs, showcasing the game's popularity among French consumers.

Comparatively, the PS5 PRO only managed to sell around 10,000 units in the same time frame, highlighting the immense success of the Switch 2 in the French market. Despite global supply chain challenges, the Switch 2 has seen widespread availability, contributing to its record-breaking sales figures.

Nintendo has set a target of 15 million Switch 2 sales for the current financial year, a goal that seems achievable based on the strong initial sales performance. With the original Switch selling 15 million units in its first year, Nintendo's continued success in the console market is evident, even with pricing concerns surrounding the Switch 2.
